Opportunities to join us

We are looking for motivated students and researchers to work on cutting-edge projects in biodiversity, spatial ecology, and environmental policy. If you are interested, please me an email at yiwen.zeng[at]ntu.edu.sg with the role in the title, your CV and a brief introduction to yourself.

PhD student (fully funded)

Evaluating strategies to expand conservation efforts around Southeast Asia and/or globally. This can include market-based mechanisms (e.g. carbon/biodiversity credits), policy-based strategies (e.g. protected areas), or blended finance.

Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Design and implement species distribution and multi-species occupancy models (e.g., MaxEnt, HMSC, spOccupancy), evaluate their predictive performance and transferability across space and time, and develop biodiversity indices to support scenario-based assessments of urban planning trade-offs. Working closely with the PI, research assistant, and external partners, the postdoc will play a central role in integrating ecological models into a user-facing geospatial decision-support tool, translating scientific outputs into policy-relevant insights. The position also involves leading and contributing to high-impact publications, mentoring junior team members, and engaging with stakeholders to ensure the relevance and applicability of the research. Candidates should have strong quantitative skills in ecological modelling, proficiency in R (and ideally Python), and experience working with spatial and biodiversity data.

Research Assistant

Support the development and implementation of biodiversity modelling and geospatial analyses within an interdisciplinary project on urban ecology and planning in Singapore. The RA will be responsible for managing and processing biodiversity and environmental datasets, generating spatial covariates from remote sensing and GIS sources, and assisting in the implementation and evaluation of species distribution and occupancy models. Working closely with the postdoctoral researcher and PI, the RA will contribute to the production of biodiversity indices, preparation of scenario analysis inputs and outputs, and the testing and validation of a user-facing geospatial decision-support tool. The role will also involve coordinating data collection efforts with external partners, ensuring data quality and consistency, and supporting the preparation of figures, reports, and manuscripts. Candidates should have strong skills in GIS and data handling, proficiency in R (and ideally some Python), and an interest in ecology, spatial analysis, and applied environmental research.
